Having operated as a number of different names since its foundation in 1993 (including Fastfix, Home Service and Doméo), HomeServe was the first major home emergency repair company in the UK. Still operating out of head offices in Walsall, England, the company is perceived to be one of the leaders of the industry – although many sources believe that the British Gas HomeCare service are responsible for a higher volume of customers and income.
Although the brand now has regional branches in Spain, France and the US, their majority of their estimated £600 million annual revenue is still drawn from their customer-base in Britain. It is in the UK that HomeServe spend most of their marketing budget – notably being the main shirt sponsors of West Bromwich Albion in 2010/11.
Recently, HomeServe have attempted to move into the classical insurance market (offering building and contents policies for example), but their core business remains that of emergency household cover through which they deal with issues relating to boiler breakdown, central heating, plumbing, drainage and appliance repairs.
The success of their business model has led to an increase in competition – among the newest attempting to take a portion of HomeServe’s market share have been The AA through their own Home Emergency Response service.
