Based out of their head offices in Chipping Sodbury (near Bristol) in England, eCar have been one of the main insurance companies to benefit from the growth of online price comparison websites such as CompareTheMarket.com.
Operating purely as an online entity, the business has purposely kept costs low in order to pass savings onto customers. However, the small budget that the company operates on does have some drawbacks for consumers – the difficulty navigating the eCar website and the problems getting in touch with the business to make a claim being two of the main complaints.
However, the savings that many customers have been able to make through their car insurance has more than negated these issues, and eCar regularly beating the prices quoted by more established web-only insurance companies such as Swiftcover in price comparison results. The success has seen their business model replicated, with the insurance industry currently experiencing a boom in budget policy providers.
Despite what the implication in their name, eCar offer more than policies for average motors, and are able to offer insurance for motorcycles and vans – and the company have recently expanded into covering homes and businesses, too. This is typical of the insurance industry, with market leaders Churchill and Hastings Direct both offering a similar range of products – though usually at a much higher premium.
